Summer Reading

We don't homeschool year round but we do review math facts regularly and have the kids read for 30 minutes each day even in the summer. My son loves to read but with my daughter it is a little more of a struggle. I'm excited that there are so many different reading programs that we can use this summer to help both of them be more motivated to complete their reading.

All I did to find these programs was google Utah summer reading programs. Do the same thing for your state and I bet a ton will show up + some of these are nationwide!

Here are the ones I found:

Utah State Fair - For children ages 6-12 as of September 1, 2017. They need to read 10 books by July 28 and mail in the completed form. They will receive admission to the State Fair, ribbon bookmark, coupon for a free drink and free carnival ride.

Barnes & Noble - For children in grades 1-6. Read any 8 books and record them in the summer reading journal. Return to Barnes and Noble by September 5, 2017 and receive a free book from the ones listed in the back of the journal.

Utah Read Today - For children ages 5-14. Read 20 minutes a day, they will receive a mood-changing pencil, a book from Seagull Book, a free Happy Meal from McDonald’s and two tickets to the Aug. 16 Salt Lake Bees baseball game. Submit game board by July 31st.

Scholastic Happy Camper - Kids create account, read and log their minutes. Offers a chance to compete for the World Record and earn points to redeem for rewards thru Sept. 8, 2017.

Pizza Hut - Has free books and activities to download for summer reading. You can also enroll NOW for the 2017-2018 homeschool book it program.

Slyvan Book Adventure - Not only a summer reading program but year round. Kids can create an account, read books and take quizzes to earn points they can redeem for prizes.

Weber County Library - Win prizes for every sixteen days you read at home. Track reading time on your log beginning June 5 and ending August 12. Final prizes will be given out beginning July 22. There will also be reading events throughout the summer at the different branches.
